| I skipped winter. |
[21 May 2009|10:56pm] |
Dear the internet,
I've been neglecting you. Sorry. Well except facebook. I've been all over that. But I haven't felt much like livejournaling in the last five months.
My favorite album I've bought this year is "Into Lake Griffy" by Good Luck
If you sit down and watch Gundam Wing, I mean really watch it, that show is crazy. The characters are kind of dumb a lot of the time. The ones that should be rational anyway.
I'm excited for the new Terminator movie, except the more I learn about it the more I fear it will suck. Post-apocalypse! How can it be bad?
I've got a hot girlfriend whom I love dearly.
All I do is play Left 4 Dead all day.
I need a job, badly. I've applied to four places and gotten no results. And three of those places were super markets.
Love, Andrew

Seven days into winter break:
- Saw the day the Earth Stood Still Was ok. Not terrible. I was entertained, there were explosions, Jennifer Connolly. Keanu Reeves lacks a soul. The little kid was annoying. See it if you've seen everything else.
- Read The Watchmen Recommend. A good read, the ending was a bit rushed but it is pretty fucking heavy for a graphic novel. Hopefully won't be the only thing I read this break...
- Saw Slumdog Millionaire Good film. Recommend. Some cheesy lines to go with the love story. Geoff says the previews make it look artsy. It isnt really. Totally raw scene at the end in the bathroom. Loved it.
- Saw The Spirit Uhhhh... it isnt what you think. Parts of it are almost surreal. Stunned by it. I cant tell if its a good movie or not. It does parts well. Also, Eva Mendes butt, reason alone to see it. Also Samuel L. and Scarlett Johaanson power duo.
- Played a SHIT TON of video games. A literal shit ton. GTA3: San Andreas, Tactics Ogre, Yoshi's Island DS. Good times, consumes too much time. Probably should take a break before I start dreaming of about drive-bys and NWA.
- Hung out with friends, ate food, hope to do more of both. Didnt get any presents. I'm not concerned. My dad asked me today if he bought me this if I would read it. I said probably. The book is about writing. All I really need is money for guns and drugs. And by guns I mean food.

Yesterday I met an honest to god time traveler. He was from the past, 1700's? 1600's? Around that time. He wore a long grey coat, brown vest, dress shirt, and big leather boots. He spoke with a british accent. I think it was british. Very light. I was working in the resource center in the library. It's the place with movies and CD's. He comes in and asks for this old VHS, a battle of some kind. I give him the VHS and open up a room for him to watch it (no one has VHS players at home). A few minutes later I'm back there again opening up another room for someone else. On my way back to the desk he stops me, and asks for help. He can't get the VHS player working. I go in and examine the machines.
"Which one is the VHS player?" I ask. There a bunch of different devices for a variety of formats.
"Well, it fit into that one." He gestures at a gray DVD/VHS combo. I fiddle with it alittle, until I get it working.
"There you go, enjoy."
"Thank you. I would have never figured that out."
Because you have arrived here from the past.

In the course of going to sleep at 4 and waking up at 2ish I've somehow re-entered the world of Starcraft. Now, my last immersion in the game proved to be a poor experience on a count of the fact that Starcraft players are slimy when touched and generally unpleasant creatures on the whole. This re-immersion has proved to be slightly different. The players are still are still miserable for the most part, but the neo-Nazi facade has generally fallen away and a fair bit of what I suspect to be Koreans have arrived. I suspect because sometimes people talk in jibberish, as in the symbols do not resemble any language, and Koreans are apparently really good a Starcraft. I did however just finish a game that, quite to my surprise, was actually enjoyable. We lost and I did terribly, but I actually talked to my fellow players, and cracked jokes and they actually made some funny jokes. It was refreshing, and gave hope for humanity.
Upon the realization that all I do is sleep and play Starcraft, and that as someone who majors in writing it is pretty bad that I was not motivated at all to write, not even to read, I resolved to write something. The only way I could was to limit myself to 250 words. This a standard type of writing called "microfiction". My teacher was really into it. Anyway, I figured that not undertaking a huge project and starting short would be good and get me rolling. It did sort of. I was inspired to write a story about a japanese canned coffee drink called "Black Boss" except Black Boss is a shadowy figure that backs a series of crimes against this corporation. Of course, in my effort to take it slow, I end up devising an idea that I would write a series of 250 worders about Black Boss and the crimes. I wrote three and now I'm kind of stuck. Part of the problem is that Black Boss, to my knowledge, has no motivation for robbing this corporation. The thieves steal documents not money, and some dialog has revealed that Black Boss is "looking for something" but I don't know what that something is. For the fourth installment, I have many ideas. I could either present the corporation's perspective (I did once already though, the second one), I could simply present another crime (they take place all over the world and generally involve gadgets and jumping off buildings but I've done two already I have to keep it fresh), I could present a failed crime, where the theif get's caught or dies, or I could present the counter to Black Boss, someone who used to be his friend but has now turned on him and tries to stop him. The last one is really anime-esque and I don't know how comfortable I am introducing something like that. Basically that dude from Hellsing that works for the Catholics. A good location would help. I've considered le grande arche in Paris and some place in Brazil. Le Grande Arche would be cool because its pretty fucking square, and I really want someone to crawl across the top of it, but that wouldnt really make sense. If someone scales a building to enter a window, they wouldn't scale the opposite of the building. I kind of want the person to be blown off the roof or fall in someway and die. Nobody has died yet, to my knowledge.
Friday is Otakon. Nobody cares and I don't really care. But I bought my ticket before I knew nobody cared and so unless I want to waste $55, I've got to get to the Baltimore Convention Center. It might be cool to be there by myself kinda. I'm probably going to watch very little anime in favor of foreign live action films. 1970's Pakistani zombie flick here I come. Maybe I'll make friends with sex-starved anime retards in bondage pants with face paint. Anime fans are weird as shit.
A few days ago I went to the last Jimes show. It made me kind of sad. Lots of bands don't exist anymore, but Jimes was a mainstay and his departure made me kind of miss the part of high school where I went to house shows often. Plus Jimes was just a cool guy. Local music scenes are terrible, but Bunkbed and Ants and Robot Porno are classics, and while alright recorded, they couldn't compare to the live show. I don't know.

What up summer, how you livin? No water what what? Man, no water. How silly. I wonder if it will be back when I wake up tomorrow. You know, at 2pm because jobs are for suckers. I have a source of income. It hasnt actually paid me yet. It should have yesterday but my bank thingy wasnt processed fast enough. Other wise I'd be rolling in a sweet $115. I'm going to see The Queers/Andrew Jackson Jihad/BTMI! on friday I think. In Richmond which should be an adventure. I'm most excited for AJJ but everything else should be awesome too. What a summer. The Hulk is a quality film. I enjoyed it even if Edward Norton is too awesome to be nerdy Bruce Banner. I kinda wish they re-did the first one too so that Norton could be a silly dork more instead of whatever tool they had back then. Mostly video games all summer. It's actually going surprisingly slow. I guess it has been a month already. Man, it is all about Dark Knight, July 18th. I can't wait. I've watched Batman Begins twice relatively recently and got all excited for the next one.
Schwarma. Sundays. Schwarma. Sundays. Schwarma. Sundays. Schwarma. Sundays. Schwarma. Sundays. Schwarma. Sundays.
There is one really good Rilo Kiley song I like alot.

Pepper jack cheese is not a cheese that should be taken lightly. It is a cheese that strives to be sharper than all other cheeses. In this facet it is great. It adds that awesome kick to any sandwich. However, there is one drawback. It melts terribly. Tastes delicious melted, but cools quickly into a stiff substance almost impossible to eat. Also, scrunches up considerably more than other cheeses. I will be back in the state of Maryland on wednesday, I suspect. Tomorrow I have to argue with a sound artist about why I shouldn't fail, but I have to do it in a way that doesn't call them completely incompetent in a way that will make me fail. That is, I can and probably will call them incompetent, but in as inoffensive a method as possible. I may not be successful. Then I have to clean my apartment to the extent that my roommates and I don't get charged $300 for anything other than the numerous holes, stripped paint, carpet stains and other damages I cannot effectively clean. Again, I may not be successful. I wonder what summer will be like.

My computer died. My old computer lasted (in a way) for 7-8 years. This one barely made a year and a half. My harddrive is fine (awesome) but the screen might be dead (meaning new computer, yay!) or my motherboard might need replacing (which sounds really fancy to me but apparently is not that complicated, relative to most things involving computers of course). Either way, I have to write a story for tomorrow (10 pages minimum) which isn't an impossible feat but will require some hardcore borrowing of computers/library. The story features a gravedigger who get's his pay cut by the catholics so they can pay the legal fees of their child-molesting priests. I stole the concept from a Ghost Mice song, pretty much verbatim, but I'm not sure if he's going to blow up the church or not which was my original plan, or seek revenge in a different way or just take it and be weak and pathetic. Maybe punch a priest? Maybe. This mirrors my own struggle with the library to get the money they owe me because apparently I'm not getting paid this week? Assholes. Assholes assholes assholes!
I guess this is like a real job, where you don't get paid for weeks at a time for no reason. That's what real jobs are like right?

Living in isolation + Mountain Goats + Return Home = Success!
John Darnielle is an enthusiastic performer, even though he played mostly from the past three albums (didn't know heretic pride + not a big fan of get lonely + excited for Sunset tree) but still, overall, good show and there was no second encore, never mind what anyone else says.
Now I'm home for three whole days, I don't know what's happening, I have some plans but everything is brief and I don't mind being home for a little bit. I might start writing a story tonight. It's about a gravedigger, but the plot is really similar to another story and I don't know if I want to do it again. What frightens me is that i didnt see the connection until afterwards so maybe I just have an affinity for blowing up things as a means to seek revenge on those who have betrayed you. Whatever, it's mostly inspired by a Ghost Mice song with an assist from my dad.
ALSO I can't wait for CD's to go out of style and everyone buys things on vinyl or downloads because then I'll be the cool guy listening to my music on an out of date medium! HA! Take that hip vinyl collectors!

Thank you Purchase College for stiffing me $50 on the one pay-check where I need it most. You already closed, inexplicably, all dining services for this weekend, which bothered me only slightly because I could order pizza or chinese or hell maybe indian if i had people to go in with me. But no, through no fault of my own, because you fucked up, I only get 70% of my paycheck now. Fanfuckingtastic. The more I think about this the more angry I become so I'm done.

1. I am 20. Two decades. Not a teenager. CRAZZZZY.
2. Two of my friends bought me a ticket to see the Mountain Goats on March 18th. Even bought a train ticket. Sweet present right? Well, March 18th is during Spring Break. Thus, I am faced with many choices. Hopefully they all end with me seeing the Mountain Goats.
3. Yesterday we all went and saw Cornelius, this sweet Japanese noise-rock band. It was quite an amazing audio/video experience. We also had great Vietnamese food. If you're ever in NYC and want good cheap vietnamese food, look up the Saigon Grill.
4. Birthday parties are cool. Overwhelming, but cool.

My last few days of college were a big pile of meh. Did my exams, studied my ass off, more so then I've ever done before. My last night was frustrating and annoying. I don't understand women. But now I'm home and I guess that's cool. My grandfather, aunt, and cousin are coming down from Albany and staying until christmas day so I may be limited by that until then.
In other news does anyone want to go see a band in Baltimore on either the 5th or 6th. They are called Le Rug (myspace.com/lerug) and they are a purchase band and I am good friends with two of the members and I think it would be cool to go see them but getting a ride from someone would be awesome. So if anyone wants to see a band with two drummers, 3 guitarists and a bassist, let me know. It'll be a party I swear.
I'm probably leaving to go chill on long island around the 15th, january so we should hang out before then.
In High School we were like fugitive warlords.

I haven't written anything here in awhile. I do so now because it's like I'm doing something else instead of reading about Buddhism, because exam time is now and I don't know shit about Buddhism and the test is quite hard and requires quotes. What kind of in class exam requires quotes? A hard one that requires more preparation than I am capable of. Not to mention the two exams I have on monday that I am poorly prepared for. Oh unimportant non-major classes, why can't you be more like Fiction I, where the final exam is pretty much nothing, and that's the only class I really want to take.
In other news apparently motherfuckin MOS DEF is confirmed to play here next semester in April. So you know, if that interests you, keep April open.

Things that I need to do before I die:
See the Lawrence Arms perform 15 Minutes and the Kitchen Floor done!
It was an amazing show. The openers were meh and I wasn't in a good mood because I forgot how to work NYC over the summer and got lost a whole lot trying to get to the venue. But Brendan Kelly is the man and I should have gone up and talked to him but I think I would've been star struck. Admittedly I was hoping for a Slapstick song. I'm almost positive they didn't play one. They did play some Larry Arms songs that I liked (100 Resolutions is amazing) but they did play two of the first Broadways songs I ever heard. Also it was an insane pit and this dyed-blonde chick kept yelling at people because they were running into her. I can sort of empathize not wanting to be in the pit, but jesus what do you think is going to happen? Big fat drunk guys aren't exactly respectful of personal space, especially when they're flying off the stage. Also Brendan was tanked and you couldn't understand him half the time. All and All an amazing show.
Countdown to Polysics: 9 days.
